State of your Mind

The State of your Mind determines the State of your Life. It is amazing how a change of mind can lead to a significant change in one’s life, either positively or negatively. There is such a deep connection between one’s mind and experiences. This is why we are constantly advised to guide our mind.

Almost all victories start from the mind, and same for all defeats. If you believe you can do it you are most likely to achieve it. It doesn’t matter how much you invest, if you think it wont work, it is most likely that it won’t work.

When the sons of men made up their minds to build a tower in the land of Shinar, even God saw their determination (mindset to succeed) and knew they will succeed unless He confuses their language.

You must therefore exercise control over your mind if you want to succeed in life. You must feed your mind with God’s words and promises, positive thoughts, inspirations, success stories of others, and believe in yourself.

The greatest battlefield is in the mind. This is where negative and positive thoughts strive for control every minute, and only those who have mastered the art of sweeping their minds of negativities and filling it with positivities will come out as victors.

Start changing your negative mindset and you will start experiencing a turnaround. To win in life you must constantly cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and continuously bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Remember the State of your Mind determines the State of your Life. If your mind is always in a state of emergency,  your life will always be witnessing emergencies. What State is your mind in?

‘Have To Do’ vs ‘Called To Do’

Everyone is created for a specific purpose. There is no accident in creation. All creatures are purposefully made.

For mankind, life and parental pressure have a way of shaping our lives and sometimes imposing new purposes on us. We often call these new purposes, vocations, professions, careers, etc.

Very few people are in vocations that align with their original purposes and this accounts for why we have a lot of unfulfilled people who might have even made a ‘success’ of their career.

It is important to know that being successful doesn’t equate being fulfilled. Fulfilment usually comes with finding and fulfilling what you are called or made to do, which is your purpose.

Finding and doing what you are made to do, thus become a primary task for everybody who wants fulfilment. This in no way invalidates your chosen career or vocation or profession. Rather your career, which is ‘what you have to do’ becomes the vehicle or an enabler for your purpose,  which is ‘what you are called to do’.

You must therefore work with purpose in mind. When you begin to do this, life becomes more meaningful, you become more productive and you become better at prioritising and more efficient in the use of your resources.

So, find ‘what you are called to do’ and use ‘what you have to do’ to fulfil what you are called to do.

Have a fulfilling day.

Strive for Excellence

Many of the travails we face today are borne out of our penchant for mediocrity. We have become so used to doing things shoddily to the extent that when someone tries to be extraordinary we label him or her as overzealous.

We build with inferior materials at the risk of wasting lives when the buildings collapse. We construct our roads and drainage with low quality stuffs and when the rain comes we start complaining. Even our health system is failing because the doctors never got quality training, the facilities are in decay, so death rate is increasing. Those who trade in food items neglect all safety rules just to make more profit at the expense of sending people to early graves.

Right before our own eyes, our world is collapsing all around us, yet we still don’t see reason why we must do things right and do it well. Yet we don’t see why we must do ordinary things extraordinarily.

Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 1:10 “That ye may approve things that are excellent” Philippians 1:10a.

Martin Luther King also said “If a man is called to be a street sweeper,  he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted,  or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well. ”

No matter how menial that task is, do it very well. This is what brings excellence. Excellence births good life. It pays us to do things right the first time and do it well. We will save ourselves a lot of hassles by so doing.

My sympathy to those affected by the rain flood on Saturday.

Please be informed that ‘Cage the Minions; Unleash the Giants’ seminar scheduled to hold for Saturday 15th July has been postponed due to logistics challenge. New date and venue will be communicated in due course. Apologies for any inconvenience(s). Thanks for your understanding.

Have a great week. Cheers!

Thinking is a Discipline

God’s mandate to man includes having dominion and subduing the earth. Meaning we are created to take charge of our world and shape our world for our benefits.

Sadly, the reverse of this order seems to be the case, especially for the less developed world. We have become victims of little or no thinking. We practically allow circumstances and situations shape our lives rather than shape situations.

Our governments are more reactive and proactive. Our systems are designed to address issues after the havoc rather than prevent issues. This is why when rain falls, like it is doing this morning, our roads will be blocked and traffic congestion is inevitable.

These are all symptoms of poor or no thinking. For people who do not think, they will always be victims of life. Thinking is a discipline, requires discipline and you have got not just to think, but to think big, realistically, reflectively, and strategically.

Is there a challenge you are facing? Have you really given it serious thinking? Have you placed it under the hard scrutiny of personal and shared thought? In the words of Brian Tracy, successful people are big thinkers.

As a man thinks so he is, according to the book of Proverbs . So if you don’t think, it means you are empty. If you also don’t think big, you will remain small. The choice is yours.

Happy New Week.

15th July, 2017 is a date you don’t want to miss. “Cage the Minions; Unleash the Giants ”

It Is In You

On 1st December 1955, Rosa Parks, a seamstress in a local department store in Montgomery, Alabama, refused to vacate her seat in the colored section of the local bus for a white passenger, after the white section had filled up.

Her resistance led to her arrest and ignited several protests that led to the emancipation of the colored in the United States.

Rosa Parks drew courage from within herself and decided to save her pride even though she stood the risk of being jailed or even killed. If you seek to save your life, you will eventually lose it. When a man ceases to fear for his life, no force can stop him, living or dead. No one can encourage you better than yourself. It is all in you.

There is such an irresistible power in each one of us. We have such potent force lying within us that when released, no force can resist. If you truly believe, you will move mountains.

Severally when offered the chance of being freed, Nelson Mandela refused and stood his ground that his people must be allowed to live freely and rule in his country. This force kept him active for 27 years in incarceration, some of which he spent in the loneliest places on earth, Robben Island being one of such.

This force within us is powerful enough to not only change our lives but also change the world. Unfortunately, many people go to their graves without even knowing they carry such power.

Former President Obama activated his and defied all odds to become the first black President of the United States.

Are you willing to draw on that power? Do you want to rock your world? Are you tired of your present status?

Then let us meet at “Cage the Minions; Unleash the Giants” seminar. 15th July 2017 is the date. Register now! See details in the flier below.
Happy Eid Mubarak!

Self Development

You are at your best when you are truly and fully yourself. The best form of self development is fully maximising your unique strengths.

We live in times when people bury their real selves and try to live someone else’s live. Nothing wrong having role models, but not at the expense of forgetting who you are.

Bruce Lee said, “Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”
You are who you are and you have your unique strengths. Inferiority complex comes from belittling your own uniqueness and envying another person’s uniqueness. Superiority complex comew from failing to acknowledge the strengths or uniqueness of others.

You may not have the strength the other person possesses, but you have your own strengths that he doesn’t have. Trying to be like the other man is the root cause of identity complexes.

Find yourself, know yourself, discover yourself and develop yourself whiles also acknowledging others in their uniqueness.

Being yourself is the best form of self development.

It Won’t Happen by Wishing

It is often said that ‘Life is not fair.’ We often console ourselves with this cliché, throwing up our hands in resignation and wishing that mother luck will somehow intervene and turn things around.

Truly we all need some elements of luck or good fortune to reach our goals, however such luck rarely comes when one adopts a passive position. Nature abhors passivity and this is evident all around us. When a tree refuses to bud, it is cut down. When a sea stop flowing, the creatures in it start dying and it starts stinking.

Nature thrives when there is life, in the same vein, our lives are meant to be full of life. We should never allow challenges and vicissitudes of life push us to the point of becoming mere wishful thinkers. Don’t just dream, pursue your dream vigorously. Your dreams won’t happen by chance, you have got to make them happen with planning, preparation, prayer , persistence and proper positioning.

As you begin a new week, encourage yourself and pursue your goals with renewed vigor. When nobody encourages you, draw encouragement from the promises held in your dream. Go for it again. Don’t just wish it, work for it.

Happy Democracy Day!

The Esau’s Mentality (3)

People with the Esau’s Mentality have tendencies to judge people or things by their looks. They are easily swayed by material things and often fall victim to dupes, fraudsters, and cheats.

Esau returned from a hard day’s hunting without any catch. He was very hungry and met Jacob cooking. He asked for some of the food, but Jacob placed a price on the food, the birthright of Esau. At that very moment, the birthright of Esau was equivalent to a plate of meal. He easily equated his birthright to one meal.

How many times do we shortchange ourselves for some gratifications? Sometimes it is sex, money, material possessions, positions, etc. Ladies sleep with strangers for money, trading their destiny for money, forgetting that destiny can buy money, but money can’t buy destiny.

For momentary lack, guys engage in money rituals, armed robbery, drug peddling and other vices. Esau’s Mentality robs people of their destiny and makes people settle for ‘morsels’ when they could be the ones dishing out the food.

It is one of the reasons people sell their votes for a loaf of bread, or for a tin of rice, or sometimes for money.

It is the reason youths allowed themselves to be used as tools of destruction by politicians. If you value your birthright, you would ask that politician to send his own children on such errands.

It is time we changed this mentality before it changes us irreparably. Make up your mind today not to be a victim again.

Thank you and have a great week ahead.

The Esau’s Mentality (2)

A major manifestation of the Esau’s Mentality is Short-termism. Short-termism means thinking only about the immediate gains and ignoring future losses or consequences of today’s action. It is a widespread phenomenon in our generation.

In career, it sometimes manifests in making monetary gains as the main focus of working. Such a person can commit fraud, accept bribe and risk losing his integrity, practicing license and even his life when called to face the consequence of his action.

It robs people of the ability to weigh their actions on the scale of conscience and posterity. They only think of what that gain can do at that very moment. It is also the reason for changing jobs because the next job offers higher pay, even when it won’t help to build one’s career.

People who engage in short-term thinking always have themselves to blame in the long-run.

Another area of manifestation is in relationship. If you always focus on what a man possesses as your main yardstick for going into a relationship, you will miss out on the best. This applies to men who are always looking for made-women. Just as you cannot judge a book by its cover, you should not weigh people on material possessions alone. It is very dangerous.

When Abraham asked Lot to make a choice of land, Lot chose by sight and picked the greener side, which later turned to be Sodom and Gomorrah. Look out for intrinsic values in the man or woman. Integrity, fear of God, respect for life, vision and strength of character should be among the values you should be concerned with. If it is all about money, you will fall for fraudsters or abusers.

We will dwell more on this in the next series.

Happy Democracy Day.

The Esau’s Mentality (1)

The story of Esau and Jacob, the twin sons of Isaac is one of the most instructional stories in the Bible. Read Genesis 25:20-34. Esau was the first born of Isaac, having won the supremacy battle between himself and Jacob in their mother’s womb. This naturally bestowed the Birthright and first born blessing on him.

However, due to his mentality, he lost this most prized possession, that is, his Birthright.

So what is the Esau’s mentality? Esau’s mentality is the mental state of mind that dwells largely on the benefits of the present with little or no concern for the consequences of today’s actions on the future.

It is the mentality that is largely prevalent among the human race, especially the black race. It manifests as wastefulness, thoughtlessness, short-termism, greed, avarice, poor planning and low level of development.

This mentality is one of the major reasons why the black race is still seemingly behind other races. Lord Luggard aptly wrote about the African race in the Dual Mandate, ” His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future or grief from the past.”

It is said that when a problem has been identified, you have solved half of the problem. This is why I have chosen this topic with the hope that this series will cause the readers to engage their minds and deal with the Esau’s Mentality that has bedeviled our existence.

I have been doing a lot of self reflection in the past weeks vis-à-vis the happenings in my country, and I have come to the conclusion that unless we start thinking fast and thinking futuristically, we might be heading towards extinction.

Stay with me as we explore in this series. Thank you and have a great week.
