Laws of Life (2)

We began this series yesterday with the first four laws and here are a few more laws that will smoothen your journey through life.

5. Law of the Supernatural: This law affirms that what happens in the natural is determined in the Supernatural. The natural is the physical world while the supernatural is the spiritual world. While some people do not believe in the existence of the supernatural, it really does exist and controls the natural as well. You only ignore the supernatural at your own peril. You must take your position in the supernatural to earn it in the natural. You cannot be in charge in the natural if you have been discharged in the supernatural. Man is a triune being with a spirit, soul and body. Your spirit relates with the Supernatural (or the spirit realm) and conveys messages from the supernatural to the natural via your soul and body. You must therefore equip your spirit man to be able to function well in the spirit realm. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Ephesians 6:11-12.

Law of Association: This law presupposes that you are the average or mean of the collection of people you associate with. If most of your associates are bright and intelligent, you will be bright and vice-versa. So whatever you desire to become in life, associate with people who have achieved more than your dream and you will find the right support for your dream. Proverbs 13:20. Your association must be carefully selected. A sheep that walks with the dog will eventually eat dungs. A dog that grew up with a lion will behave like a lion. Watch your association.

We will continue with the laws tomorrow.

God bless us all.

Laws of Life

There are certain laws that will make your life better and also help you to be more productive in life. Here are some of them.

1. Law of Seed and Harvest: This applies in every area of life. In relationships, only do to others what you want back in multiplied dimension. The harvest is always in multiple of the seed, so choose your seed carefully. In business, don’t lay the foundation of your business with ill gotten wealth or stealing someone else’s idea. In ministry, don’t pull down another ministry to start yours. Don’t build anything on a faulty foundation. ‘If the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’.  Psalm 11:3. Remember that the harvest always supercedes the seed.

2. The Law of Motion : Newton 1st law of thermodynamics state that ‘an object remains in a state of rest until an external force is applied’. Ordinary people watch things happen,  while Great People make things happen. Take daily steps towards your goal. Destiny is not happenstance, destiny is action induced. Success is not by chance, success is a result of prompt prior preparation and efforts. So don’t wait for success to happen, make it happen.

3. Law of Seizing the Moment: This can also be called the law of Right Timing. For some actions, the right time is any time. For instance, there is no time that is not right for doing good. Some actions however, require timely action. If you don’t seize the moment for such, it will become irrelevant. You must therefore be discerning and sharpen your senses and intuition to know when the moment is ‘Now’. No matter how little resources you have, when it is the ‘Now’ moment, take a step, other things will fall in place.
4. Law of Purpose : The basic underpinning of this law is that there is a purpose for everything and everyone in life. Ecclesiastes 3:1. When the purpose of a thing is not known it is subject to abuse. Your life makes the best meaning when you find your purpose and you are pursuing your purpose. Finding your purpose requires knowing that there is an Almighty God who created you and acknowledging Him. He will guide you to your purpose if you ask Him.

We will continue with the remaining laws tomorrow.

God bless us all.

Managing Crisis

Life is programmed such that we will need always experience challenging times. Sometimes it is in our personal lives, other times it is in our career, some other times it is in our businesses. I mean, that period of crisis that threatens to consume us and makes us to start fearing the worst. Nobody is immuned to crisis. Life chart is like a wave of water, with crests and troughs at different points. The crests represent our moments of great achievement while the troughs represent those moments of crises.

How do you handle moments of crisis?
1. Know that every crisis like every other thing has a life cycle. It has a beginning and it will surely end someday.

2. Maintain your peace, composure and sanity of mind. Don’t allow fear to crowd out your senses. Knowing that crisis has an end should give you some peace and sanity of mind.

3. Be proactive in information management. One of the things that kill a business faster than the crisis itself is poor information management. Take charge of the information management process. Don’t let market react based on grapevine news. Hold a press conference or meet with stakeholders to let them know what the issues are and the steps you are taking to address the issues. Be opened to your staff also, let them understand the situation, but let them know you are handling the situation.

4. Take decisive actions where necessary. Don’t delay or procrastinate on important and urgent actions. You don’t leave a cancerous cell to fester and affect other part of the body. If there is a need to disengage any erring member of your team or a product line, do so quickly and communicate the disengagement properly.

5. Have a crisis and disaster management plan in place. Don’t wait for the evil day. Plan for the evil day. Your disaster recovery and management system should immediately be operational in crisis moments.

6. Watch out for new opportunities in the crisis. Crises sometimes present us with a new set of opportunities that were hitherto hidden to us. You could discover a new product line, new service type or new market in crisis, that is why you need to maintain your calmness.

If you wait it out, it will pass and you will be stronger and better. It will surely pass.

God bless us all.

Respect is Earned

Regardless of your position in life, career, business, politics, or any area, you must learn to treat people well if you are to be successful. You must respect people to earn their respect. Respect is earned and not bought. Position vests Authority and not necessarily Respect.

There is a difference between positional authority and respect. You may have people obeying your orders and instructions by virtue of your position. If these same people continue to respect you when you are no longer in that position, then you have earned their respect. So don’t be carried away by positional authority.

Some people have only positional authority and lack respect, while some have both. You can’t get the best from your team or subordinates if all you have on them is positional authority and you haven’t earned their respect. You must grow beyond just positional authority, especially in the work place.

How do you earn respect from others?
1. Treat people fairly. Be fair to all. Don’t throw your position at people’s faces. They will be waiting for your downfall.
2. Don’t take praise for what others have done. Give the praise to whom it is due.
3. Accept blame for any shortcomings in your responsibilities even if it was done by your subordinates. You may privately scold and correct the subordinates, but never publicly.
4. Know your onions. Nothing silence critics more than performance. If you know your stuff, you will command attention and respect.
5. Be humble to seek opinion of your team when you are lost or in doubt.
6. Be more than a boss. Show interest in their personal lives and progress.
7. Be yourself. Don’t pretend to be who you are not. Speak your own mind.

Remember, respect is earned and not demanded. Don’t demand it, rather earn it.

God bless us all.

When God Pauses Your Life

Left to man alone, there would be so much chaos and disorder in the world. Unchecked inventions and ingenuity of man can lead to wicked and evil machinations among men and nations. The discovery and invention of nuclear weapons brought with it destruction and threats to humanity. Hiroshima is a pungent reminder of this fact. At certain times, God intervenes directly in the affairs of men to prevent disorder and unnecessary destruction.

In the same vein, God intervenes in the life of specific persons and press ‘Pause’  button when the person involved is  going out of order, about embarking on a journey he cannot end, or unprepared for a task he is about starting or jumping ahead of God’s plan. God can pause your life and put you ‘on a spot’. He paused Moses’s life and kept him at the back of the wilderness for forty years. He saw that Moses was unprepared for the task of liberating Israel from Egypt. Anger and pride were still in him. The timing too wasn’t fully ripe for their redemption. So he paused his life and took him from the palace to shepherding Jethro’s sheep.

Maybe you are in a situation you don’t understand and you are wondering what is happening. Suddenly you seem to have been thrown into obscurity. You are no longer as relevant as you used to be. You have suddenly lost favour where you once used to be celebrated. This could be the act of God. He may be checking your speed, attitude, character, or true motive. Maybe God has paused your life.

The good news is that when God pauses your life, it is for your own good and you will be a better person when the period is over. So don’t be disturbed, rather cooperate with God and learn all He wants you to learn during the period. It is not a permanent condition, it is only a period of hibernation and when He is through with you, you will be a better instrument in His hands.

Relax friend, it is just a ‘pause’ not a ‘stop’. You will come out stronger, better and sharper. Remember, being on a spot is different from being in a spot.

God bless us all.

It is Not Over Until It is Over

Remembering the last Europa Cup final between Liverpool FC and Sevilla, it further reinforces my believe that it is not yet over until it is truly over. Liverpool lead the game with a goal into the half time and they looked strong into the second half. But all of a sudden, Liverpool’s defence lost cohesion and Sevilla attackers saw the weakness and started pummeling them from all over the field. It didn’t take long for Sevilla to equalize and top it with two more goals ending the match on 3-1.

Lesson from this, Sevilla were down into the second half but they didn’t give up and they ended up winning the trophy. Friends, as you cross into the second half of the year, you may have lost a lot in the first half, but if you review your performance and improve on it, you will recover all. You will not only recover all, you will finish the year on a glorious note.

It is not over yet. Sit down. Reassess and reevaluate your plans, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities  and threats around you. Restrategize. Don’t just fold your arms to watch things unfold. Direct the flow of your life. Take charge of your life. Get out of any job or situation that makes you believe less in yourself. You need to believe in yourself and what God can use you to do, before you can overturn any negative tide.

You still have six months left in the year. Whether it is your personal goal or business goal, you can still make it. Take actions. Push forward. Don’t moan over your loss. Put the past behind and start with a fresh vigor and determination. Even if you have been written off, believe in yourself. “You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.” –  Richelle E. Goodrich.

God bless us all.
