As the world celebrated Father’s Day this past Sunday, I found myself reflecting on the sacrifices men make for their families, the pain we endure, the burdens we carry, and sometimes, the insults we silently take. It all comes with the territory.

In those moments of reflection, I gained a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices my parents made, especially my mother, who had to shoulder the responsibilities of both parents at a very early stage in life.

So, beyond celebrating the fathers, this post is also dedicated to the women who have had to take on both fatherly and motherly roles. Well done. You may not receive all the appreciation you deserve, but your efforts do not go unnoticed. You will not labour in vain.

Cheers to the men who show up every day for their families, and to the women who, by life’s design, have had to become fathers too. May you be richly rewarded. Amen.

The world of acting is a fascinating one. It’s such a powerful tool for engaging and shaping viewers’ mindsets. Some movies shift something deep within you and leave you a changed person.

One such film is Tyler Perry’s latest movie, Straw. I watched it on Netflix during the Salah holiday, and I experienced a wide range of emotions throughout.

Janiyah Wiltkinson (played by Taraji Benson) completely embodied her role, delivering a performance so raw and real that only the strong-hearted could resist shedding a tear or two.

Then there’s Detective Kay Raymond (played by Teyana Taylor), who absolutely won my heart. She showed that even in the line of duty, humanity must come first. And that brings me to the heart of this message: never hide behind position, title, or authority to justify inhumanity.

There is no excuse for being inhuman. If you act inhumanely, it’s not because of your role, your situation, or your condition, it’s a reflection of who you are.

So, as you go about your day, and for the rest of your days, be mindful of how you treat others. Your words, actions, or even your silence could be the last straw that shapes someone’s life, for better or for worse.

The path of truth and doing things right is often a lonely one, especially when society at large has strayed from high moral standards and embraced corruption.

People tend to project who they are onto you because they assume everyone thinks or acts the way they do, particularly when you hold certain positions.

If you don’t align with their expectations, you may face all sorts of challenges, including victimisation, malignment , and defamation of character.

But don’t be discouraged if you’re going through such experiences, you are not alone. I’ve had to weather similar storms in my line of duty. Just keep doing your bit, watch your back, and ensure you follow laid-down processes and policies. Truth always prevails.
