We arrived home from work somewhat early yesterday, even after picking up the boys from school. Usually, when we get home at that time, the children snack on cereal before settling down to do their homework.
So when they asked for cereal, I told them to give me a few minutes while I prepared something else for them. I felt fried plantain and potatoes would be a better option for all of us, and I volunteered to do the cooking.
I went into the kitchen and started preparing the meal. About ten minutes later, my younger son came to the kitchen door and asked if the meal was ready. I replied that it was almost done. In true childlike fashion, he responded, “It’s taking forever, Daddy.”
As I pondered the best response to give him, it struck me: isn’t this how we question God and grow impatient when we pray and wait for something? While God is busy preparing something far better than what we requested, we become restless and grumble. Just like my son did, we often act that way, ignorant of the fact that our Heavenly Father is working out something better, something that requires more time to prepare.
I believe this incident was God’s gentle way of illustrating how we grow impatient with Him, when all along He is looking out for our very best.
Why not pause now and say, “Thank You, Father, for thinking of the best for me.”
Have a wonderful day.
Cheers!
