Daily Reflection – 04042025

Be mindful of whom you seek counsel from, because the more dependent they are on you, the less likely they are to offer frank and honest advice.

Daily Reflection – 03042025

You feel down because you spend more time doing things you don’t enjoy, and to avoid this, try doing more of what brings you joy.

Up Close and Personal – 02042025

I went for my periodic medical checkup last weekend. I usually avoid visiting this medical facility for various reasons, including:

1. Poor customer service
2. Confidentiality issues
3. Excessively long waiting periods

I typically visit the hospital twice a year unless circumstances require more frequent visits. Over time, I have conditioned myself to deal with the inevitable challenges, such as those highlighted above.

Last Saturday, I prepared for an entire day at the hospital, bringing my laptop and a book to make productive use of the waiting time.

I had hoped for some improvements since the hospital recently moved to a new and larger facility. I was optimistic that it would be less crowded than their previous location.

However, my hope was dashed right from the reception at the ground floor, where I was wrongly directed to the first floor instead of the second. Despite operating in their own larger facility, the problems seemed to have only escalated. Crowd management was poor, and the front desk staff, from the approval desk to the drug dispensing desk , lacked both knowledge and an understanding of confidentiality. They shouted across to each other, openly mentioning medications and tests that should be known only to the patients and the medical personnel involved. It was a sorry sight. I arrived at around 11 a.m. and left past 4 p.m., vowing to stay as far away from that hospital as possible.

Mind you, I had previously engaged their MD about the confidentiality issue, and he promised to address it. However, either he failed to do so, or it has simply become ingrained in their system. At this rate, I believe they are just one step away from a lawsuit.

This experience, along with others I have encountered in workplaces, makes me reflect on the rapidly eroding values of professionalism and excellence. It seems we have become a nation where mediocrity is the norm and where no one wants to be corrected.

How did we get here? What has truly gone wrong with us as a people?

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Cheers, and enjoy the rest of your day and week!
