I am always fascinated by the arguments from both the prosecution and defense, the shouts of ‘objections’ and their subsequent sustainment or overruling.
Even more compelling is the process of gathering evidence and using words to set traps for witnesses or the accused, and witnessing how a seemingly hopeless case can be turned around through the brilliance of counsel.
Grisham’s writing prowess makes one want to dive into the world of legal practice, much like how some movies can immerse you to the point of forgetting their fictional nature. One such film is Miracle in Cell No. 7. I believed I could remain unemotional during any movie until I watched this one.
Humans are generally captivated by what we see or read in fiction or movies, often assuming that such portrayals reflect reality. This also applies to social media, particularly with posts from celebrities. We see the glamour and wish to emulate their lives, even though the reality for many celebrities is quite different. Some are struggling, some are merely maintaining appearances, while others are genuinely successful.
Despite my fascination with the legal profession, I am aware that it requires years of study, passing the bar exams, practicing, and continuous learning to excel. Nothing is as easy as portrayed in movies or novels; significant effort is required to become a force in any field. Thus, don’t just desire the glamour you see in movies or on social media; be prepared to do the work.
Moreover, do not judge others because their lives do not measure up to the standards you have set based on movies or celebrities. You might miss the opportunity to grow with people who have great potential. Learn to pay the price before enjoying the prize.
Cheers, and have a great day.
