Up Close and Personal – 19062024

Some holidays seem to be divinely orchestrated , and the last two days were such for me. The Sallah break afforded me the time to rest, watch movies, and even catch up on my 10km run. My family was also able to visit our Muslim neighbour to celebrate Sallah with them.

It was a good break because it has been a gruelling and nerve-racking two months while dealing with a number of issues at work. While these issues have stretched and tested my patience, I have also come to appreciate the importance of team cohesion and experience.

No matter how good you are, if you are leading a dysfunctional team, you will struggle, so your first task is to ensure your team is working as one. Prioritize team cohesiveness, as pressure will expand any existing cracks within the team. I learnt this more in the last 8 weeks.

In addition, I learnt that there are times your best will fall short of expectation. Do not see yourself as a failure in such moments, we sometimes fail so as to become better.

Finally, as a leader, you will take the hit for your team. It comes with the territory, and that is one of the prices of leadership, do not shy away from it.

Looking back, I feel there were times I could have handled matters better, but rather than flog myself, I am taking the lessons from it all.

So, how has your leadership or followership story been? Do you want to share?

Cheers, and have a great day.
